S03E21 – The Awards Edition

tmw-s03e21-episode

The Awards Edition by Tune Me What? on Mixcloud

In this episode we take a listen to just a few of the many South African artists who can add “award-winning” to their online biographies. Honestly, we were so spoiled for choice that in the end we did an eclectic blend of artists we hadn’t played on the show before, mixed in with some old favourites. So rub some red stoep polish into your beige Joshua Doore carpet… its Awards Show Time!

Polishing up their acceptance speeches this week are:

  • Beatenberg
  • Dr Thomas Chauke na Shinyori Sisters
  • Hatchetman
  • Nakhane Toure
  • Jonathan Butler
  • Julian Redpath
  • Sharon Katz
  • Soweto Gospel Choir
  • Van Coke Kartel
  • Wouter Kellerman
  • Zakes Bantwini

We really appreciate your feedback. We’re always open to suggestions and even requests! If you’re a South African musician living or touring internationally, do let us know about your concerts, album releases or tours – we’d love to give you a punt on the show.

tmw-s03e20-episode

The Mugg & Bean Generation by Tune Me What? on Mixcloud

Are you young, constantly on the move, connected, online, looking for the next big thing, and living fast and spending faster? In America, they’d call you “The Starbucks Generation”. In South Africa, well, that might be the “Mugg & Bean Generation”, but whether or not these generational traits translate across the ocean, there sure as hell is a brilliant indie-alternative rock scene in South Africa to provide the soundtrack to well, whatever you want to call it!

So, in this fast and furious episode of Tune Me What?, we feature the music of:

  • Anti Retro Vinyls
  • BLK JKS
  • Bye Beneco
  • Card on Spokes
  • Go Barefoot
  • John Wizards
  • Kongos
  • Locnville
  • Nonku Phiri
  • Parlotones
  • Shortstraw
  • Zebra & Giraffe

S03E18 – Mix Tape

TMW-318-episode

S3:E18 – Brett’s Mix Tape by Tune Me What? on Mixcloud

Brett and Leon decided to do a “mix tape ” each and Brett won the toss to go first, so this show is a random selection picked out by Brett. “I got a lot of new CDs in this month and I’ve been dying to play them, so this was the perfect excuse,” he says. So, here’s an hour of more fantastic South African music presented by Brett while Leon interjects with his judgements and observations in another fun-filled episode of Tune Me What?

Next week, they reverse roles, so its a two-parter of sorts!

This week’s show features music by:

  • Aquarian Quartet
  • Des & Dawn Lindberg
  • Dollar Brand
  • Flash Republic
  • Gay Marines
  • Gert Vlok Nel
  • Hugh Masekela
  • Mahlathini & the Mahotella Queens
