With politicians, it’s hard to know if they’re dancing with you or dancing at you, but British Prime Minister Theresa May could not stop her feet moving to South African music during her state visit last week. However, not every British export to South Africa has two left feet. Today’s show celebrates those artists born in Blighty, but whose musical roots burrowed deep into the African soil. You might say – borrowing from that vintage TV show – they were born a potroast, but the African sun made them entirely biltong!
In today’s show, we feature:
- Johnny Clegg & Savuka
- Mango Groove
- The Helecopters
- Wild Youth
- Amersham
- Squeal
- The Bats
- Jeremy Taylor
- Duncan Mackay
- David Abbate
We really appreciate your feedback. We’re always open to suggestions and even requests! If you’re a South African musician living or touring internationally, do let us know about your concerts, album releases or tours – we’d love to give you a punt on the show.
