S02E13 – The Covers Show

This week’s show is inspired by Die Lemme – which features former members of Die Gereformeerde Blues Band covering Johannes Kerkorrel’s song ‘Liefde’. They played on the original track back in 1989.  Standing in for the late Johnny K is Arno Carstens from the Springbok Nude Girls. We particularly like it when South African artists cover other South African tracks because, we think, it helps to establish a cannon of homegrown music. So, we devoted the show to artists paying tribute to their fellow South Africans.

In this episode we featured:

  • Die Lemme
  • Jack Parow
  • Jennifer Ferguson
  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo
  • Nico Carstens
  • Sharon Katz & The Peace Train
  • Soweto String Quartet
  • Tony Cox
  • Urban Creep
  • Van Der Want / Letcher
  • Vusi Mahlasela
  • Wonderboom

Our Gigs, Gossip & Grooves dates have now moved to the “Events” tab on the main menu. Check it out for South African artists playing and other events in your city.
